Philomena Ott has been detecting and managing dyslexia for over 30 years. In 1982 she was awarded a prestigious Churchill Travelling Fellowship to Dallas in the USA where she trained at the world-renowned Scottish Rite Hospital. She has served as an Executive Member of the British Dyslexia Association and chaired the Local Associations Committee.

She now writes articles for national newspapers and magazines and regularly appears on radio and television. In the past year has given major presentations in England, Ireland, France, Belgium and Italy.

Philomena Ott

Edicational Consultant
Philomena Ott is an independent educational consultant and a specialist in dyslexia management.
She is an experienced teacher and a highly respected practitioner. She has worked in the maintained and independent sector at primary and secondary level.

While working at a Child Guidance clinic in 1967 she first encountered dyslexia and has subsequently spent her professional career working and studying at the leading training centres in the UK and USA.

Profile

In 1982 she was awarded a prestigious Churchill Travelling Fellowship to the USA. In Dallas she trained at the world-renowned Scottish Rite Hospital. She served as an Executive Board Member of the British Dyslexia Association and chaired the Local Associations Committee.

She currently runs a teaching centre and provides counselling and an advisory service for parents and schools. She is the author of the best selling book How to Detect and Manage Dyslexia (1997) which has become a core textbook for the subject.

She is a regular contributor and commentator on local and national radio and television for the BBC, ITN and Channel 5. She does many live interviews and phone-ins when she shares her 30 years of experience. She has written for The Sunday Times and journals such as The Teacher. She has given presentations at conferences and seminars in the UK, Ireland, Brussels, Nice and Rome. She runs courses for Ginn Heinemann Professional Development (GHPD). She provides Inset for LEA's and schools and talks for the BDA's and Parent Teacher Associations.
